The third guided visit of the Old English Cemetery of Livorno at night, which took place on September 26th, 2013, was another great success with a fully booked event, thanks to the collaboration between our association and the Historical and Touristic Guides of Livorno (Fabrizio Ottone and Francesca Sorrentino).
The 50+ participants enjoyed an enchanting and very evocative torch and candle-lit 90 minute tour of the oldest foreign protestant cemetery in Italy. The path we created for this special occasion included ten stops next to some of the most significant graves, spanning the first half of the 17th century to the 1830s, including Tobias Smollett (1771), William Magee Seton (1803), John Webb (1829), Thomas Hall (1824), Robert Bateman (1743), Leonard Digges (1646), Mary Champion (1721), etc.
A substantial part of the revenues were given to our association for projects related to the maintenance, study, and restoration of the cemetery itself.

La libreria Feltrinelli di Livorno ha gentilmente invitato l’Associazione Livorno delle Nazioni e il Dipartimento di Scienze Agrarie dell’Università di Pisa a presentare il libro “Un archivio di pietra: l’antico cimitero degli inglesi di Livorno” uscito per i tipi di Pacini lo scorso maggio.
La presentazione avverrà il giorno 26 settembre 2013 alle ore 18 al primo piano della libreria, in via di Franco n.10 a Livorno. Presenteranno il libro i curatori Matteo Giunti e Giacomo Lorenzini insieme ad alcuni degli altri autori: Lisa M. Lillie, Alice Quirico e Paolo Vernieri.
Al termine della presentazione vi sarà un breve Question Time per rispondere alle domande degli intervenuti. Ricordiamo inoltre che in occasione della presentazione l’associazione LdN metterà a disposizione per l’acquisto alcune copie del libro il cui ricavato sarà interamente devoluto per la cura ed il restauro dell’antico cimitero.

Conference – Montenero and the Old English Cemetery – Storie di Ville e Personaggi,organized by the Livorno delle Nazioni cultural association, promoted by the Pro-Loco Montenero association, Monday 2nd September at 6.30pm at Ristorante Conti, Piazza di Montenero.
